Anna Bakach
Choir Conductor & Singer

About me
Anna Bakach is a Ukrainian choral conductor and soprano currently based in the Netherlands. Her artistic world grew out of a childhood shaped by singing and ballet—two forms of expression that combined sound and movement. This natural connection between voice, body, and gesture gradually led her to conducting, where she found a space that allows her to unify these elements and fully express musical energy.
Originally from Odesa, Anna studied choral conducting at the A.V. Nezhdanova Odesa National Music Academy. During her studies, she became a laureate of several Ukrainian conducting competitions, including first prizes and the Grand Prix at the Nizhyn conducting competition in 2021. Alongside her conducting education, she also studied academic vocal performance and graduated from the Odesa Ballet School.
From 2016 onward, she worked as assistant conductor with the children’s choir “Solo Musica,” participating in international festivals and competitions across Europe. She also taught singing to children and youth in Odesa before continuing her artistic path abroad after the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
Anna later received a scholarship from the Europa Chor Akademie in Görlitz, Germany, and continued vocal studies in Poland before moving to the Netherlands. She is currently completing her master’s degree in choral conducting at HKU Conservatorium Utrecht with Rob Vermeulen.
Since 2025, Anna has been Artistic Director and Conductor of Kamerkoor 4bij4 and Zwaluwkoor in Utrecht. In addition, she collaborates with Dutch ensembles as a guest conductor and Slavic language coach, helping choirs prepare Slavic repertoire. She also participated as a guest conductor at Zomer Academie Zutphen (Baroque Festival). Alongside her choral work, she is actively developing her skills in orchestral conducting, taking part in masterclasses, with Jorma Panula and Alejandro Cantalapiedra. Her orchestral experience also includes working with baroque orchestra projects, such as Bach’s Matthäus-Passion, as well as performances of works by Vivaldi and Mozart.
For Anna, conducting is always about energy — a living flow that moves between conductor and singers. She aims to keep rehearsals active, engaged, and full of momentum, creating an atmosphere that inspires singers to give their best without feeling the weight of effort. Her approach is to lead in a way where hard work becomes something natural — so that music is shaped through joy, focus, and shared energy.
